CHARLES GRIGGS

Charles Griggs is an award-winning professional making his mark in the marketing world. The Jacksonville native received an Associate in Science degree in advertising design from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. Today, Griggs works as an experienced media and marketing professional who takes pride in creating strategies that deliver specific target markets. His knowledge of the industry spans more than twenty years and involves various winning campaigns, associations and clients throughout the south.
In 2004 Griggs was selected as the U.S. Small Business Administrations North Florida Minority Small Business Advocate of the Year.
Griggs served as art director for Florida National Banks of Florida and Buescher Communications in Valdosta, Georgia. In 1982 he was the production/graphic designer for WJCT Channel 7/Stereo 90 and freelance designer for WNFT TV 47. In 1991, and again in 1999, Griggs was commissioned to produce Jacksonville's Black History poster commemorating local legends.
Griggs has coordinated projects for CSX Transportation, Advantus Corporation, JM Family Enterprises/Southeast Toyota Distributors, Floridas Anti-Tobacco Pilot Program, the Jacksonville Jaguars, Teen Summit-Jacksonville (A Black Entertainment Television promotion), and various public redevelopment projects, including the Preservation Project, Friday Fests, and the Jacksonville Wireless Internet Zone project.
In addition to his professional responsibilities, Griggs has made a personal commitment to give back to the community through his long-time volunteer work with the Jacksonville Urban League, serving both as a board member and as chairman of the Jacksonville Urban League Auxiliary. He is also a member of the Jacksonville Association of Black Journalists, Florida Black Business Investment Board, Chairman of the Board of the First Coast Black Business Investment Corporation, Marketing Chairman for the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce Small Business Development Center and former board member of the Jacksonville Community Council, Inc. He was also appointed to serve on the Jacksonville Human Rights and Arts in Public Places Commissions.
On the other side of the media table, Griggs writes a weekly editorial column, titled BlacKoffee, syndicated and published in the Jacksonville Free Press. While he previously hosted The Next Page, Griggs currently host and produces First Coast Focus a radio talk show that focuses on political and social issues. The program is broadcast weekly on TAMA Broadcasting (105.7 FM, 105.3 FM and 92.5 FM). He can also be seen as a regular panelist on WJCTs Jacksonville Exchange Week In Review broadcast, which airs weekly on Channel 7 and 89.9 FM.
